Safeguarding Resources
At The Wymering School safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where our autistic students can thrive and reach their full potential. Our dedicated safeguarding team works tirelessly to ensure that all staff are thoroughly trained in recognising and responding to potential concerns, with a particular focus on the unique vulnerabilities that our pupils may face. We understand that safeguarding extends beyond the school gates, which is why we’ve developed strong partnerships with families, local authorities, and specialist services to provide comprehensive support. To assist our families in continuing this vital work at home, we’ve selected key resources which are very relevant to our school community.
Online Safety
Welcome to our online safety resource page for The Wymering School. In today’s digital age, the internet has become an integral part of our lives, offering incredible opportunities for learning, communication, and entertainment. However, it also presents unique challenges and risks, particularly for our students. At Wymering, we understand that many of our pupils may have a special interest in technology and spend significant time online, which makes internet safety education even more crucial. Autistic individuals may face additional vulnerabilities online, such as difficulty interpreting social cues or understanding the intentions of others within digital interactions. They might also struggle with impulse control or become easily overwhelmed by the vast amount of information present on the internet. Furthermore, some of our students may have challenges in recognising potential dangers or distinguishing between safe and unsafe online behaviours. That’s why we’ve developed a comprehensive online safety curriculum as part of of PSHE curriculum which is tailored to the specific needs of our learners, focusing on clear, concrete strategies and visual supports to help them navigate the digital world safely. By working together – school, parents, and students – we can ensure that our young people can enjoy the benefits of the internet while staying protected from its potential risks.
